The PGCE English course
The PGCE English course has four distinct but inter-related elements:

These consist of lectures, practical workshops and school visits. Through them, trainees develop three kinds of knowledge:

- Ways in which they can promote this learning as teachers
- Knowledge about language and the primary curriculum for English School-based tasks
The purposes of these tasks are to give trainees the opportunity for structured practical investigation of English teaching in primary schools.
Provide opportunities for observing children and investigating their language learning and development
Independent learning of English
Trainees, knowledge about language is audited throughout the course. Through this they will develop a file independent work in English to fill any gaps in knowledge and revise earlier English subject knowledge they may have forgotten.
Practical teaching in school

Assessment
All the above elements feed into a written assignment where trainees are expected to analyse and critically reflect on an aspect of English teaching specific guidance, assessment criteria and tutor support are all provided.
