Foundation Subjects
Trainees on the Primary PGCE Programme study courses for all National Curriculum subjects. This includes substantial courses of over 65 hours in each of the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. The other foundation subjects and RE are taught within shorter 'taster courses'. RE and PE are taught within 18 hour courses. History, geography, art, music, design and technology are each taught within a four session 12 hour courses.
These short courses introduce trainees to:
- the relevant National Curriculum elements
- national and local schemes;
- useful teaching materials and resources;
- personal skill development;
- cross-curricular links (including Literacy and numeracy);
- use of ICT:
- assessment techniques:
- the contribution of the subject to an excellent and enjoyable curriculum.
