Cheri Chan - MA TESOL (Distance Learning)
After 3 years in Hong Kong's teaching profession, I realised the skills I had acquired through initial training were insufficient to prepare me for radical education reforms. I wanted autonomy and flexibility. Attending classes after a long day at school and at weekends was not for me! I needed to learn at my own pace. The distance Masters in TESOL at the University of Manchester met my needs. Teaching can be a lonely profession, but during my time with Manchester, I was empowered to break that learning isolation. The online support from my tutor and dissertation supervisor was invaluable. They enhanced my critical understanding of language teaching as my 'co-learners' and mentors. The course has opened many doors for me. I am now working as a teacher educator at the University of Hong Kong and pursuing doctoral study.
