Why did you choose to study M Ed in Educational Leadership and School Improvement?

Being a teacher I was naturally interested in schools and the way in which they function. I was also interested to find out how they may be improved. This course seemed to give an overview of the entire schooling process, including inputs (government and individual) as well as the desired output.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Manchester?

A friend who was also responsible for my decision to do my masters recommended the university highly.

What do you think of the city of Manchester?

It is not a large city specially when compared to a city like Calcutta where I come from, but it has a lively student population with lots of activities and cultural programmes for students. Even the shopping and the pubs are great. One only wishes the weather could be improved.

What has been the highlight of your course so far?

Although I cannot point to one single event or issue the classroom sessions are memorable. The combination of being taught by those who are currently involved in research in the field of education and having classmates from different parts of the world allows for classes that are both interesting as well as informative. Feedback is often based on firsthand experience and makes discussions far more interesting and meaningful. Also, interacting with people from different countries and cultures on a daily basis is a learning experience by itself.

What is the school of education like?

Having interacted with students as well as teachers from different courses within the school of education, I can definitely say that the atmosphere is friendly and the teachers are approachable. The administrative staffs too are extremely helpful and always ready to solve a problem that a student may have.
