What is a taught degree?
A postgraduate taught course involves study in a range of core and elective modules that comprise each degree.
Taught students study towards one of the following:
- Master of Education (MEd)
- Master of Arts (MA)
- Master of Science (MSc)
- Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Studies in Education (PGCert)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Studies in Education (PGDip)
- Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE providing qualified teacher status in the UK)
For most of our MA, Diploma and PGCE courses, progress is assessed through written assignments involving a variety of tasks. The development of transferable skills is a key aim of all of our programmes, and most assessment requires students to apply their learning to their very individual contexts. Students have the opportunity to carry out relevant research, and appropriate training is provided for this and for the dissertation that Masters students are required to submit.
