Social Theories of Learning Reading Groups
Over the summer the Vygotsky and Bourdieu reading groups will be merging and meeting weekly (with occasional gaps) on Wednesdays at 4pm. At first we will be reading some chapters from Dorothy Holland's 'Identity and agency in cultural worlds' which brings together aspects of Bakhtin, Bourdieu and Vygotsky. We then aim to move on to reading some Bakhtin.
The reading group is a great place to engage with stimulating and (sometimes) difficult ideas in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Confusion and clarity are equally welcome so please feel free to come along and join in.
If you want to be kept informed of these Social Theory Reading Group sessions and receive the reading, please respond by email asap to david.swanson@postgrad.manchester.ac.uk
Our first session will be on Wednesday 22nd June from 4- 5.30 pm in C2.18 of the Ellen Wilkinson Building.
We will be discussing Chapter 1 of Dorothy Holland's 'Identity and agency in cultural worlds'
The reading is available here, http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7555653/Hol1.pdf
Hard copies are available in Ellen Wilkinson B4.10.
