Opportunities for applicants:

In the School of Education, we are committed to getting more students into Higher Education, particularly those:

The School of Education expects a high standard of applicants from all sections of society. It also realises that not all potential applicants have had equal opportunity, resources or life experiences when considering a decision to apply to study here. Therefore, the School encourages applicants and their referees to include in their personal statements references to relevant material which may have affected them. In particular, relevant life experience, work experience and commitment are highly valued.

This may include information relating to applicants' opportunities to fulfil our standard entry criteria. For example, if an applicant's studies have been interrupted, certain courses or resources have not been available, or other factors have affected their academic preparation, then this information should be reflected in the personal statement and supported in the reference. Such information will be considered along with the other parts of the UCAS form.

Where further information is felt to be necessary in order to make a fully informed decision, it will be sought, for example through an interview or a request for additional documentation. At all times, the priority of the Admissions Tutor is to ensure that places are offered to those applicants who are best able to contribute to and benefit from their study  at Manchester.

Access Open Day (for mature students on Access Courses to HE in Greater Manchester )

The Access Open Day is organised in response to the special requirements of mature students on Access courses at colleges in and around Greater Manchester. Current University Open Day provision in September/October is too early for these students who have only begun their studies a few weeks previously. This Open Day provides these students with an introduction to many of the most popular degree courses across the Faculty of Humanities.

Support for Students with Disabilities :

We are committed to providing equality of opportunity through the best possible level of support to disabled students, staff and visitors.

Our Disability Support team, part of the Equality and Diversity Office, offer advice and support for applicants during the admissions process, as well as for current students.

We welcome applications from people who have additional support needs as a result of a medical condition, disability or specific learning difficulty, e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia etc and consider them on exactly the same academic grounds as all other applications.

If you have such needs, you are invited to contact the Admissions Officer of the School in which you are interested or the Disability Support Office in order to discuss your needs, the arrangements which may be necessary and the extent to which appropriate support may be available.
